Thanksgiving Favorites
Q&A With Shay Every Other Sunday
I cannot believe it is Thanksgiving in a few days and that the Christmas/holiday season is upon us. I have been feeling like it’s September for months, and no wonder with the weather we’ve been having. But alas, it is holiday time! So, let’s talk about some Thanksgiving favorites and this or thats.
Q: Favorite Thanksgiving food item?
A: There are really so many. I’m a vegetarian (mostly vegan) so I don’t partake in the turkey, but I do love Tofurky! I pretty much love all other Thanksgiving food and it’s impossible to choose a favorite, but Thanksgiving definitely isn’t complete without pumpkin pie and vanilla ice cream!
Q: Favorite Thanksgiving drink?
A: Ever since we were young we always drank sparkling apple cider on Thanksgiving and I still love it. It always reminds me of the holiday. I suppose I enjoy red wine or champagne now at Thanksgiving, too, but the sparkling apple holds a special place and is basically Thanksgiving incarnate.
Q: Favorite Thanksgiving Day tradition?
A: Every year, I always watch all the Thanksgiving Friends episodes at some point during the day. A staple of my Thanksgivings and definitely my favorite personal tradition, though I don’t really share the tradition with anyone in particular. It’s just mine.
Q: On that same note, favorite Thanksgiving Friends episode?
A: The Thanksgiving episodes in general are so good, and they always have the best guest stars, but my favorites are a toss up between “The One Where Ross Got High” and “The One with the Football.”
Q: Favorite Thanksgiving vegetable?
A: I love most vegetables. I can’t decide between peas, brussel sprouts, or asparagus! And those are most of the Thanksgiving themed veggies I suppose. Do you have any interesting vegetables that are a staple of your Thanksgiving holiday?
Now, onto a short Thanksgiving “This or That.”
Q: Pumpkin pie or apple pie?
A: As established above: PUMPKIN!
Q: Whole cranberries or jellied cranberry sauce?
A: Jellied
Q: Cornbread or dinner rolls?
A: Cornbread
Q: Mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes?
A: Both, but regular mashed potatoes slightly more. Also, the best way to make sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving is mashed with marshmallows.
Q: Coffee or tea?
A: The answer is always coffee, Thanksgiving or otherwise.
Q: Black Friday or Cyber Monday?
A: They’re really both the same now anyway, but online shopping is the safe bet for sure. I guess most of the world agrees now. The idea of going out into mobs of people has never been appealing. It’s also funny how right after we celebrate a day to be thankful for what we have, some people will then go get into fights or get very serious about material items and wanting MORE. Irony at its finest.
Q: Turkey trot or no?
A: I like the idea of exercising before the feast, though sometimes it doesn’t always happen. I did my own turkey trot last year on the treadmill, but I’ve only ever done an official turkey trot once. I don’t like to run outside past October—cold ears and face!
Q: Football or parade?
A: Neither really, but football if I had to choose. Friends is what you can find me watching.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and get to enjoy time with your family and friends while eating delicious food, drinks, and relaxing! I’m thankful for my dog, my newfound perspective, the support I have, and all of you that I’m able and have been able to connect with! What will you say you’re thankful for when you go around the table this year?
